----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Botticelli in a Postcard Botticelli in a Postcard For someone ordinary, owning a masterpiece with the likes of a Van Gogh or a Monet, or a Botticelli, is very rare indeed. It will take me a million years before I could ever have even one original masterpiece. My favorite of a lifetime is Botticelli’s “La Primavera”, or for commoner’s like me, the “Springtime”. It is considered as one of the well known works of art during the Florentine Renaissance. Painted by Sandro Botticelli in 1482, the painting now stays at the Uffizi Gallery in Italy. Stories were told that a member of the Medici family (the art connoisseurs during that time) loved the painting so much that he hung it above a sofa in an anteroom to his bedchamber. The painting is a 7 x 10 feet work of art painted on wood that emphasizes the style that made Botticelli very famous. Botticelli is popular for his works that highlights lines, the elongation of the body, facial expressions that exudes serenity, a pose of great grace and composition, as well as the master’s use of delicate colors for his studies. Seriously, this love of mine for art masterpieces has always been an impossible dream. But not anymore! Thanks to the advent of digital technology, I can now own a replica of my favorite masterpiece even in the hundreds without even spending my entire pitiful fortune. With on-demand printing, I can now order print postcards that have reproductions of Botticelli’s “Springtime” very close to that of the original painting. Now, I don’t have to stare and salivate over the painting. I even gave some copies of my postcard to my closest friends so we could enjoy Botticelli in our very own mini masterpieces- the postcards. 2:29 p.m. - 2007-06-14 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
